Throwing it back to our honeymoon day 🖐🏼! This cold weather has me wishing I was back in Italy where it was 75 degrees and I didn’t have a care in the world.
But alas, I am in freezing cold Atlanta, dreading the work week and bracing for a horrible Monday morning commute due to inclement weather.
*EDIT: my boss ended up letting our team work from home! 👏🏼 Maybe she read my post and made the call? 😂
On the fifth day of our honeymoon, Trey and I took a several hour tour of the Vatican museum, Vatican grounds, St. Peter’s Basilica and climbed all the way up the cupola of the basilica to get that AMAZING view of Vatican City and Rome. It was 🙌🏼 – magical and so unreal – well worth the climb and claustrophobia.
It’s safe to say our feet were killing us by the time the tour ended. By the end of the day we had racked up 11 miles of walking. These sandals were so comfortable! The tiny wedge provided my flat feet cushioning and support. My feet held up just as well as Trey walking in sneakers. I highly recommend them.
Eating wise – we started the day with a cappuccino and croissant. For lunch we stopped by a cafe on the Vatican grounds where I had the best chocolate muffin of my life, and finished the day off with McDonalds 😅. At this point in our honeymoon, Trey and I really needed a break from Italian food. Some people might think we are crazy, but we aren’t huge Italian food people. With two weeks in Italy, we really had to pace ourselves as to not get sick of it. We also tried to eat smaller meals because we just couldn’t handle the huge carbo-loaded meals any longer.
If you’re thinking of touring the Vatican, I highly encourage you to by tickets in advance and buy tickets that include skipping the lines. It’s well worth it not having to stand in the long lines to buy tickets and get in. Having a tour guide makes all the difference! You learn so many things and lookout for details you wouldn’t otherwise have known about! Vatican City has a very strict dress code that that you must abide by. You are not allowed to enter if you have bare shoulders or if you are wearing shorts. I brought a wrap just in case I needed to cover my knees more.
This was hands down one of my favorite days of our honeymoon since visiting Vatican City has been a dream of mine. It was awe inspiring and really stirred something within me to grow deeper in my faith.
